The California Movement to Emancipation
Bridget “Biddy” Mason won her freedom through the courts after moving into California.  Mason became one of the richest persons in Los Angeles by buying property downtown.  She was also a founder of First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles.
A monument in her honor is found near Spring Street in Los Angeles.
